Seinfeld Co-Stars Reunited on ‘New Adventures’
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, CBS,
I don’t know about you, but watching re-runs of Seinfeld makes me wish they’d do a reunion show. I can’t wait to see Jerry Seinfeld’s guest role on 30 Rock (which, incidentally, is one of the best comedies on television)—or for that matter, his upcoming Bee Movie. Sadly, as much as I enjoyed Julia Louis-Dreyfus on Seinfeld and Watching Ellie (remember that one? few do…), The New Adventures of Old Christine has never sparked my interest. I’ve seen a handful of episodes and Louis-Dreyfus is adorable and funny, but it’s just never locked me in. So, where am I going with this post? Well, my point is that Jason Alexander, who played George Costanza on Seinfeld, will be appearing on The New Adventures of Old Christine this season. He’ll play a lizard handler (weird, huh) at a kid’s party and Christine ends up dating him. The show has a midseason return, so no telling yet when Alexander’s guest role will turn up. New Adventures is the first show of the Seinfeld cast to break the Seinfeld Curse, but it looks as though viewer numbers have slid a bit—12.5 million for the first season and 10.4 million for season two.

Jimmy Fallon’s Gettin’ Hitched
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, NBC, Saturday Night Live, Gossip,
A sad, salty tear just streamed down my face when I read that my sweet Jimmy Fallon got engaged. I don’t know why I’ve been holding out hope that he would consider me. Heck, I’m married, so I don’t even know why I feel like my heart has been trampled upon. Seriously though, Fallon has always been a favorite of mine, but I’m a sucker for a funny guy (Jon Stewart, Paul Rudd and David Duchovny have a special place in my heart). Jimmy, who you may recall from Saturday Night Live and later, films Taxi and Fever Pitch, popped the question to Fever Pitch producer Nancy Jovonen last weekend—at sunset on a dock at Lake Winnepesaukee. That just happens to be where On Golden Pond was filmed, and incidentally, is just a great name to say outloud. Blah, blah, blah… he gave her some amazing ring and then, my heart snapped in half as I tried to deal with the fact that I’m losing Jimmy forever. Back to reality, Fallon is also rumored to replace Conon O’Brien on Late Night when O’Brien moves over to the Tonight Show in 2009. All I know is that I expect to see Fallon show up on an episode of 30 Rock this season—how great would that be?

The 59th annual Primetime Emmy Awards have been announced, giving the biggest honors (17 nominations) to HBO’s Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. AMC’s Broken Trail just missed the top slot with 16 nominations. After a review of the best comedy, drama, reality, and variety series of the year, a look at the TV movies and mini-series, the die has been cast. Many were nominated, but few will win. Did your favorite show, movie, or mini-series get the nod from the Primetime Emmys? There’s only one way to find out.

Seinfeld to Appear on 30 Rock
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC,
I’m giddy. Absolutely giddy… over the news that Jerry Seinfeld will appear on the season premiere of 30 Rock in the fall. I was already over the moon when this little engine-that-could of a show managed to beat the odds and get a renewal. Tina Fey has crafted one of the most unique comedies on television and the cast is excellent. Even Alec Baldwin’s bad voicemail etiquette couldn’t dissuade me from tuning in (although, I’m still ticked at him!). And now, I find out that Jerry Seinfeld will be making an appearance as himself. I’m a diehard Seinfeld fan and a faithful 30 Rock watcher, so this is the equivalent of a Reese’s peanut butter cup. You know—two great tastes that taste great together. So maybe my reference is obscure, but you get the picture. A union of talent that is likely to provide the recipe for comedy gold. Gold, Jerry! Gold! Get ready for the season premiere of 30 Rock on October 4th. I promise it won’t disappoint.

25 Episodes Each for The Office, Earl
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, My Name Is Earl, Scrubs, The Office, Ratings, Renewals,
If you find yourself wanting more of The Office and My Name is Earl, next season is for you. Both series have received a 25 episode (each) order, a bump up from the typical 22. Plus, five episodes of The Office will be hour long installments. I’ve really been enjoying those supersized episodes, so it’ll be nice to have a handful of full hour shows in the fall. Thursdays next season will remain intact—so expect My Name is Earl, 30 Rock, The Office and Scrubs to continue their comedy block. Thank heavens. Thursdays are my night for TV, if ever I had to proclaim one. I even instruct my kids that Thursday night bedtimes need to go smoothly because I have major TV viewing. And, now I can breathe a sigh that Scrubs will, in fact, be returning again (albeit for just 18 episodes, but I’ll take it!). For at least another year, Thursdays will be the funniest night on television.

Alec Baldwin Leaving 30 Rock?
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Daytime, Prime Time, Talk Shows, NBC, Gossip, Rumors,
Alec Baldwin wants out of 30 Rock, but it’s unclear if he can get out of his contract with NBC. After his angry ranting voicemail message to his 11-year-old daughter was leaked last week, a lot of people were left with a bad taste about Baldwin. He taped an interview for The View which will air on Friday, apologizing for the way he spoke to his daughter: “Obviously calling your child a pig or anything else is improper and inappropriate and I apologize to my daughter for that. There’s nothing wrong with being frustrated or angry about the situation,” Baldwin said. “It’s the way you do it, and as people often do in this world, I took it out on the wrong person.” Apologies aside, Baldwin also said that he wants NBC to release him from his 30 Rock contract to spare castmates from any repercussions for his behavior, saying, “If I never acted again I couldn’t care less. I would like to devote myself to the cause of parental alienation.” Baldwin is writing a book to shed light on the subject, which he says was the reason for the angry message. If he is cut loose from his contract, what impact will his departure will have on 30 Rock? For many people, his character made the show; it’s hard to imagine anyone else filling his shoes.

Alec Baldwin’s Disgraceful Voicemail
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, Gossip, Internet, Rumors,
Oh, Alec. You’ve really let me down. After I’ve posted numerous blogs about your genius on 30 Rock… after watching yet another brilliant episode last night and wondering why people dislike you… I wake up this morning to read the news about the voicemail message you left for your daughter. Bad, bad Baldwin. If you haven’t heard yet, TMZ.com posted a voicemail message that Baldwin left for his 11-year-old daughter, Ireland. Apparently she missed their scheduled phone call and he went on a rant that included calling her a “rude little pig” and saying “You have humiliated me for the last time.” Oh, my heart just sank—I thought it must be some kind of joke. But, afraid not. Baldwin’s rep quickly made a statement that he “acknowledges that he should have used different language in parenting his child” but that “everyone who knows him privately knows what he has been put through for the past six years.” Uh, I don’t know—yes, he’s been through a lot fighting for custody of Ireland for three years (and the public will never really know the scope of his feud with Kim Basinger), but that’s no reason for speaking that way to your child. I’ve been over at the 30 Rock section of the NBC. com website and there are plenty of comments that people will not watch the show any longer and that Baldwin should be fired.

30 Rock Renewed for 2007-2008 Season
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, Ratings, Renewals,
I can barely hide my excitement over this piece of renewal news… 30 Rock will be back next season!! If you haven’t seen it yet, please do yourself a huge favor and check it out. If you have seen it and are a fan, then join me in a happy dance. And if you just plain don’t like 30 Rock (but how could you not?), then I’m sorry that this news will not brighten your day. While it seemed that 30 Rock would definitely get picked up, it’s nice to hear the official news anyway. OK, the ratings aren’t great, but the writing is smart and the performances are great. Alec Baldwin can do no wrong and Tina Fey is really refreshing and funny. Even NBC Entertainment chief Kevin Reilly loves it, saying, “From the beginning, 30 Rock has proven to be the kind of quality comedy that doesn’t come around very often, and we are very pleased to have this show back for a second season. We expect it to continue to build its increasingly loyal audience and become another of NBC’s classic comedy series.” Interestingly enough, NBC calls this an “upscale” show because of the concentration of viewers with six figure household incomes. Catch 30 Rock when it returns this Thursday at 8:40 for a super-sized episode.
